Sloans Lake Homes are generally considered to be the homes located just to the north and east of the park itself, although the areas of Edgewater and the Highlands are also very close to the lake and park.  The boundaries of Sloans Lake homes, which are located just west of downtown Denver, are 29th Ave., Federal Blvd., Colfax Ave. and Sheridan Blvd.  Sloans Lake is also nearby the Highlands, Edgewater, the Denver neighborhoods of Berkeley, Jefferson Park, and Sunnyside.

Sloans Lake homes root back to the mid 19th century when the area was settled by Thomas Sloan.  It is mostly legend now, but apparently the body of water formed when Thomas accidentally tapped into an underground aquifer that flooded the area and created the lake.  The area was used for different purposes over the years, but taken over by the Federal Works Projects Administration in 1933 who created the 177 acre park that now is considered Sloans Lake Park.  The Park has a beautiful lake that is even large enough for water skiing, but also lends itself to jogging, basketball, tennis and a great view for a picnic.
