City Park Neighborhood
Denver’s City Park neighborhood was established in 1882 by future-minded residents, who sought to preserve outdoor space for recreational opportunities. City Park – located in the heart of Central Denver – is bounded by York St. to the west, Colorado Blvd. to the east, 23rd Ave. to the north, and Colfax Ave. to the south.
City Park encompasses several neighborhoods, including City Park South, City Park West, and City Park North.

The neighborhood’s roots go back to circa 1900, so City Park homes boast a variety of architectural styles, including highly sought-after bungalows, Denver squares, traditional brick homes, and modernized condos.
The Park
The City Park neighborhood is named after the 320-acre park of the same name – the first and the largest of Denver parks. Its casual layout and overall design was influenced by New York City’s Central Park. Ferril Lake sits in the middle of the park with its recently-restored famous Prismatic Electric Fountain. The lake has paddle boat recreation, along with a loop for walkers, joggers and bicyclists to enjoy. In addition to the park’s outdoor and recreational offerings, there are stunning views of the lake house, along with city and mountain backdrops.
City Park is enjoyed by all park goers and it continues to be Denver’s premier park to this day.
What to do in City Park
City Park is punctuated by a variety of charming dinning and shopping opportunities, including those found on 17 Ave’s restaurant row, a diverse collection of pubs eateries, and quaint coffee shops, including Chada Thai and Vine St. Tavern, Il Posto, Thin Man and St. Mark’s.
City Park also provides a free concert series called Jazz in the Park, along with many other events. The series runs from June to August and is put on every Sunday evening. It is also home to the Denver Zoo, the Museum of Nature and Science, the City Park Golf Course, and to many more cultural opportunities.
