Denver’s eclectic Capitol Hill neighborhood – named after the neighboring Colorado capital building – is bounded by Broadway to the west, Colfax Avenue to the north, Downing Street to the east and Sixth Avenue to the south.

Capitol Hill, one of Denver’s most historical neighborhoods, dates back to 1864 when it was home to many historical mansions. In later decades, the neighborhood became rundown as apartment buildings popped up and dominated its landscape. Capitol Hill has been completely revitalized over the last decade, and today, it attracts all kinds of residents, inlcuding young professionals who enjoy the community’s affordability and its close proximity to downtown Denver’s business and cultural centers. Capitol Hill has a very diverse welcoming culture that can be felt throughout the neighborhood.

The neighborhood is known for its strong neighborhood association that has represented Capitol Hill for more than 31 years – Capitol Hill United Neighbors (CHUN).

What to do in Capitol Hill

Capitol Hill is located near the diverse shops and restaurants along Colfax Ave, including The Red Room, City Grille, and Watercourse Foods. A short drive down Colfax Ave. will lead you directly into the heart of downtown Denver.

Capitol Hill is close to two popular Denver parks – Civic Center Park and Cheesman Park. Capitol Hill United Neighbors sponsors several community events throughout the year, including the People’s Fair each summer – an “annual celebration of Denver´s diversity.”

Capitol Hill is in the center of Denver’s far-reaching public transportation system, so its residents have easy access to points all around the Denver metro area.
