FindMyHomeDenver is pleased to report that Denver is becoming a safer place to live! The Denver Post reported last week that the number of reported crimes in Denver decreased an average of 5 percent over the past year, dropping to levels not seen in over a decade. The city has seen a downward trend in crime over the past ten years.
According to the article, the number of Denver murders decreased 13 percent from 2009 (39) to 2010 (33). In addition, the number of aggravated assaults and sexual assaults also decreased year-over-year. …

If you’ve spent any time in Cherry Creek North this summer, you may have noticed a strange combination of bustling construction activity and empty storefronts. The empty storefronts must signal distress, right?  No, this is not the case since many new businesses opening up to replace the old ones that are mainly leaving due to the area’s high rent. The entire district is undergoing a massive facelift that is sure to rejuvenate business activity in the future.

The higher-end Denver real estate market, encompassing properties often requiring jumbo loans, was one of the hardest hit segments during the recent slowdown.  This is an unusual occurrence that wasn’t present in past slowdowns, since homes selling for around $500,000 traditionally attract fairly stable buyers with permanent jobs.  As a result of the crazy loan market and cheap interest rates, combined with a souring job market, the upscale Washington Park real estate market finally experienced one of its first major slowdowns in history.

Several Colorado cities were recently named among Money’s “Top 100 Best Small Cities,” including Fort Collins (6), Highlands Ranch (12), Broomfield (19), Loveland (33), Arvada (58). Cities were evaluated on a number of factors, including “boasting plenty of jobs, great schools, safe streets, low crime, lots to do, charm, and other features that make a town great for raising a family.” Congratulations to all of the Colorado cities that made the list!
